Trans Adriatic Pipeline AG (TAP AG), the project company for the Trans Adriatic Pipeline, also known as TAP, on June 13, 2008 filed a petition with the Greek Regulatory Authority for Energy, RAE, for the design, construction, and ownership of an Independent Natural Gas System in line with Greek legislation on the liberalisation of the natural gas market.

TAP AG is a joint venture equally owned by StatoilHydro and Swiss-based EGL Group. The intended gas transmission system consists of a pipeline that will tie in to the existing Greek national gas system near Thessaloniki and stretch approximately 200 kilometres to the Greek/Albanian border. From there, TAP will cross Albania and the Adriatic Sea to enter Italy near Brindisi.

The Trans Adriatic Pipeline will contribute to the diversification of gas supplies to the countries of the European Union. TAP is looking forward to fostering a close partnership with Greek authorities to realise this significant project with European Union and Southeast Europe energy policy dimensions. The final investment decision to build TAP is expected in the second half of 2009.
